The launch of the report was paralleled by several international launch events, including a social media campaign with its own hashtag: # The EAT-Lancet recommendations encourage a largely plant-based diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, pulses and plant oils, with very modest amounts of animal protein – and in particular, it encourages a reduction in red meat (amounting to a small portion no more than 2-3 times a month). The EAT–Lancet reference diet is often unaffordable for the poor because it requires larger quantities of higher-cost food groups such as dairy, eggs, meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables than the near-subsistence diets that are consumed by very poor people.
